First Class Support provides academic support to students in receipt of disabled student allowance (DSA). We pride ourselves on only employing first class support specialists that are passionate about making a difference to the lives of people studying higher education courses across the UK.
Due to recent demand, we are looking to galvanise our team of highly qualified and experienced specialist support staff. There is currently a position available for a Communication Support Worker. We are only looking for people that match the criteria listed below.
Your role: You will be able to translate sign language into voice and vice versa although not at the level of competence required by a trained British Sign Language (BSL) / English Interpreter. You will work flexibly with an individual deaf student in lectures, workshops and seminars as well as providing general one to one support.
Your Skills: Qualified signing and experience of working with deaf learners in an HE context; understanding of how deafness affects learning.
Qualifications/Training: All candidates must possess one of the following qualifications to be considered by First Class Support.
- Signature Level 3 Certificate in Communication Support for Deaf Learners
OR
- Level 4 Communication Support Worker
OR
- Edexcel’s Professional Development Award in Communication Support Work with Deaf Learners
OR
- City & Guilds Communication Support Worker Level 3
OR
- A degree in deaf studies and ALSO Signature Level 3 qualification in BSL

Additional Information:
The working hours vary according to the needs of the
student and the academic timetable. We are seeking support workers who
are currently self-employed,
or in the process of registering as a self-employed professional.
All support workers must be able to receive emails and
phone calls when on location. Only the most experienced and qualified support
workers will be selected for interview.
We are looking for fresh and engaging staff to alter the
dynamics of NMH in a positive and objective way. We are looking for people to
